Steve Kramer, CPO, passed away in June. He was 81 years old.
Kramer received his O&P education at Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center. He worked for Hanger in Chicago in the 1960s before becoming a partner in Universal Orthopedic, where he eventually became the sole owner. After selling Universal Orthopedic, Kramer started Woodfield Orthopedic, Illinois, in the mid-1980s. His son, Brett Kramer, CPO, purchased the business in 2000.
Steve Kramer lectured around the country educating O&P professionals about managing complex scoliosis cases and high-level amputations. Kramer served on many boards, including the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists for many years and served as secretary/treasurer in 1977. He was on the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association board and served as president from 1974-1976. He was also on the American Board for Certification in Orthotics & Prosthetics board and was an examiner for many years.
Kramer had a transfemoral amputation when he was 17 due to a motorcycle accident, but he continued to ride motorcycles for another 30 years.
