Mark Geil, PhD, professor of biomechanics, Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, Kennesaw State University, retired after more than 28 years in the University System of Georgia.
“I’m taking an early retirement. It’s been an extraordinary privilege to be part of the faculty of Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and Kennesaw State. I’m grateful for the colleagues, students, and friends who have been with me on the journey, to my wonderful family who have supported and motivated me,” he said on LinkedIn.
Geil, who has affiliate appointments in biological sciences at Georgia Tech and in physical therapy at Georgia State University, received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and a doctorate in biomedical engineering from the Ohio State University. He helped create the first entry-level Master of Science degree program in O&P while at Georgia Tech and founded the Center for Pediatric Locomotion Sciences at Georgia State.
Geil is a Fulbright Senior Specialist awardee, winner of the Research Award from the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, and currently serves as chair of the board of directors of Live in Motion (formerly the Orthotics and Prosthetics Foundation for Education and Research). He was recently ranked 17th in the world for orthotics research by ScholarGPS.
