With diverse opportunities to treat and serve patients in physical therapy and orthopedic settings, including leading the Polyclinic during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, serving as the head athletic trainer for a professional soccer team, and designing ankle bracing and foot products (she has a patent pending on a semi-custom ankle brace), Marcia Graddon, ATC, BOCPD, continues to enjoy her work. “I feel very fortunate that my career has progressed in the fashion that it has, and that my roles continue to evolve. I’ve had wonderful experiences throughout my career,” she says. When she’s not working, she enjoys painting and spending time with her husband and two young children.1. How did you become interested in pedorthics?
I became interested in pedorthics when I moved to the Washington DC area and started working closely with Steven Neufeld, MD, an orthopedic foot and ankle specialist. I had worked at a sports and physical therapy facility for nine years and had always done some orthotics, but it was never my focus. For the past ten years, I have been doing pedorthic work exclusively, and I am loving the creative aspect of it. I majored in sports medicine and studio art in college, and I feel as though this profession allows me to think out of the box and be creative with the difficult problems that our patients face.
