The National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) has issued a special alert, as follows:
The Senate is scheduled to vote this week on legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act; the draft form of the legislation was released June 22. NAAOP said it believes that passage of the national healthcare bill would undermine essential health benefit coverage, including orthotic and prosthetic coverage, in the private insurance market and under the Medicaid program.
Additionally, NAAOP is taking a lead role in working with a large group of rehabilitation and disability organizations to conduct a Congressional briefing that will focus on the value of rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices in America’s healthcare system, along with over 50 U.S. Senate staff visits. The briefing will be held Tuesday, June 27, from 12:15-1:30 p.m. ET, and will be livestreamed and available for viewing on NAAOP’s website, www.naaop.org.
Special guests will include Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL), and others who will tell their story of injury, recovery, and the importance of rehabilitation services and devices.
