Versatile Central Fab Celebrates Second Anniversary

Peaster & Williams Central Fab Inc., Cumming, Georgia, celebrated its second anniversary July 2.

Versatility and being a place where "the new meets the old" has helped drive the young company's success. "Word has spread that we can do the older style prosthetics: wood and leather sockets, expandables, and partial feet," says President Johnny Peaster, a technician with 30 years experience. "This older technology is still in demand, but it is harder and harder to find technicians with the skill to manufacture these items."

According to Jim Williams, vice president, the company's ability to build any limb from a partial foot to a hip disarticulation or partial hand to a fore-quarter, plus his upper-extremity fabrication experience gained from SPS and the Hanger Upper Extremity Program, has given Peaster & Williams a wide customer base.

Starting their new company was "a little overwhelming at first," says Peaster, adding, "Jim and I were both apprehensive about being on our own after working for a large company for 45 years combined."

"It was quite a challenge to get the shop completely set up," remembers Williams. "We worked nights and weekends to get all the equipment set up and running. We are located about 30 miles north of Atlanta and had expected to attract local and Southeastern customers primarily. As it turned out, we have customers from New Hampshire to Florida and New York to Washington state."
