John R. Quinn has been named as director, Corporate Development & Planning, for Hanger Orthopedic Group Inc., Bethesda, Maryland, the company announced December 17. In the newly created position, Quinn will be responsible for new business development and corporate planning. He will focus his efforts on identifying, evaluating, and recommending opportunities for Hanger Orthopedic Group Inc. to pursue outside of its core O&P business. Quinn will emphasize new businesses, enabling Hanger's expansion beyond current operations, according to the company. Before joining Hanger, Quinn served as the business manager of Resort Attractions, Support Services, & Security for the Walt Disney Company's Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. In this role, Quinn led planners and analysts in executing value-added financial planning, reporting, forecasting, business case development, and diagnostic analyses. In addition, he provided real-time support of strategic decision- making. He subsequently served in several other capacities with the Disney organization, including manager, Operations - Chief of Staff, where he supported the chief operating officer in the immediate execution and opening of the new Disneyland Resort. Previously, as manager, Operations Planning - Resort Expansion Planning, he led a multi-organization effort to devise and implement comprehensive transportation, parking, and logistics strategies. Quinn's first assignment at the Disneyland Resort was serving as senior business planner in Strategic Planning. Preceding Quinn's five-year tenure with the Walt Disney Company, Quinn was a nuclear submariner with the United States Navy, based in San Diego, California. Quinn served as a division officer, rotating through various divisions including Damage Control, Chemistry & Radiological Controls, Communications, and Quality Assurance. Quinn graduated Phi Kappa Phi, with distinction, from the United States Naval Academy in 1991, earning a BS in mechanical engineering. While at the Naval Academy, Quinn gained leadership distinction, as he was ranked in the top five of 970 classmates in leadership and received the award as the most distinguished athlete in academics, athletics, and leadership. He also was recognized for the athletic talent he displayed as a member of the lacrosse team, being named Division I All-American and Academic All-American. Upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy, Quinn entered the Navy Nuclear Power Program. Quinn participated in the masters-degree equivalent program in nuclear engineering with emphasis on react theory, design, and operation. In 1993, Quinn graduated at the top 10 percent of his class. In 1998, Quinn received his masters in business administration with second-year honors from Harvard Business School. Currently, Quinn serves as president of the United States Naval Academy Alumni Association's Los Angeles Chapter and as director of the Harvard Business School Alumni Association's Orange County Chapter.
