In what has been called “an unprecedented level of cooperation
and proactive response,” the California Orthotics & Prosthetics
Association (COPA) and the national organization, the American
Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) have been successful
in defeating SB 77, the physical therapy scope of practice
extension bill, COPA announced. On Monday, January 12, 2004, the
bill was pulled from committee by the author. Because the bill must
pass its first policy committee by January 31, and today’s hearing
was the last hearing scheduled, the bill is no longer viable
without rules waivers, COPA noted.
