VGM Set To Acquire POINT

The provider-owned network, POINT Health Centers, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, and the VGM Group, Waterloo, Iowa, have signed a letter of intent to seek shareholder approval that POINT shall be acquired and operated as a division of VGM, it was announced October 8.

It is planned that POINT will operate administratively in conjunction with VGMs current O&P network, OPGA, according to a statement from VGM/OPGA. However, POINT will maintain its separate identity and present missions and services, including, access to new and existing managed care contracts, preferred manufacturer/supplier agreements, and identifying and meeting unique needs of independent practices, OPGA said.

Susi Funkhouser, POINT administrative director, expressed her enthusiasm: "We were very pleased with our visit to OPGA/VGM. We learned that many of the support services POINT had determined it would need to develop in order to meet its mission are already in place within the OPGA/VGM Group of companies. This union will create a more powerful organization for the independents, and I'm confident they'll recognize its significance and participate. The involvement of respected O&P professionals like Dennis Clark and John Michael demonstrates to POINT clinicians the desire within this organization to support and serve the independent O&P practice."

OPGA President Jim Andreassen adds, "We at OPGA are very excited at the prospect of joining with POINT in order to form a much stronger, viable network. This will allow us to do an even better job at focusing on our mission, which is helping the independent O&P members remain independent. I look forward to working closely with POINT in the future."

Shareholder acceptance and commitment to the future organization are essential to finalization of this decision, it was noted. The POINT shareholder meeting and decision are planned to take place in November.
