A packed-out standing-room-only Town Hall meeting during the
recent Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium of the American
Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists centered on a letter
written February 11 by Academy President David Moretto, CP, FAAOP,
to Ben F. Massey Jr., PT, MA, president of the American Physical
Therapy Association (APTA). In the letter, Moretto stated that the
Academy would not oppose at this time APTA’s legislative efforts
for direct access. The proposed Congressional legislation would
allow physical therapists direct access to treat Medicare patients
without first obtaining a physician referral.
