Reinertsen Nominated for ESPY Award

Sarah Reinertsen of Team Ossur, the first female amputee to complete the Hawaii Ironman, has been nominated for a 2006 ESPY Award, according to Ossur North America, Aliso Viejo, California.

Besides her triumphant finish at the grueling Ironman in October 2005, Reinertsen holds numerous world records in sprinting and distance running.

ESPN is airing the "2006 ESPY Awards Nomination Special" Tuesday, June 27 at 7 PM and 8 PM EDT. The 2006 award winners will be announced at the ESPY award ceremony Wednesday night, July 12, in Hollywood, California. The ESPY Awards will air on Sunday, July 16, at 8 AM on ESPN2.

"She is an inspiration for children and adults alike to overcome their challenges and reach for places most would never even dream of," said Tabi King, marketing communications manager for Ossur North America. "After failing to complete her first Ironman, Sarah did not give upshe took the challenge straight on and did what she needed to do to get to the finish line at the Ironman World Championships last year. She represents what it means to achieve what seems not to be possible, and along the way taking the time to help others see their true possibilities.

"All nominated are truly outstanding athletes and role models," King continued. "As a personal friend of Sarah's, I can tell you she is more than a world-class athleteplease take the time and give her your vote."

King gave these instructions for voting: Go to http://espn.go.com/espy2006/index.html . To find Reinertsen's category, scroll down the yellow menu on the right side of the web page for "Best Female Athlete with a Disability," vote, and click "submit."

The ESPY Awards were created by ESPN and are presented for "Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly." According to the ESPN website, "No other award brings together all of sport, honoring the beset performances, most memorable moments, and, with the presentation of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, those whose courage and conviction transcend sport."
