ACPOC Issues Call for Papers

The Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC) has issued a call for papers for its 2007 Annual Meeting April 11-14 in Atlanta, Georgia. Deadline for submission of abstracts is September 30, 2006.

The meeting, to be held at the Westin Peachtree Hotel, will be hosted by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, a nonprofit pediatric healthcare system.

ACPOC is particularly interested in the following specific topics for symposia and instructional course development, the association said:

* Spinal orthoses;

* Limb lengthening;

* Fibular deficiency: salvage versus amputation;

* Clubfoot orthoses;

* Weight-activated stance control orthoses; and

* Etiology of meningococcemia and purpura fulminans: prosthetic approach.

Surgical presentations require a review of appropriate imaging studies for proper planning and execution. All presenters are strongly encouraged to include not only clinical photos but also radiographs in their presentations.

Due to continuing medical education (CME) requirements by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), "We have to be aware of any conflicts of interest or commercial bias," ACPOC noted. "Scientific Paper and Poster presentations, as well as Creative Solutions, must be non-biased and conflict-free." Presenters are required to follow the abstract they submitted when making their presentations. Presentations of a commercial nature should be submitted for Technical Workshops, ACPOC said. More information on Technical Workshops will be available in the Exhibitor Prospectus, to be available by December 2006.

Types of presentations desired include Scientific Paper, Scientific Poster, Creative Solution, Challenging Case, and Symposium.

The ACPOC Program Committee includes Michael Schmitz, MD; Robert Lipschutz, CP; and Joel Lerman, MD.
