BCIT Honors O&P Alumnus

On September 17, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Burnaby, British Columbia, will award Jason Goodnough, BSc, CPO(c), its Excellence in Teaching and Research award at the BCIT Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony. The Distinguished Alumni Awards honor alumni who have "distinguished themselves in their careers and community endeavors."

Don Wright, president of BCIT stated in a press release, "BCIT's Distinguished Alumni Awards is an opportunity for the iInstitute to celebrate the graduates of our programs as well as their impact on the social and economic development of this province&. Our grads become leaders in their field, making strong and successful contributions to business and industry that clearly reflect the value of technology and trades studies at BCIT."

Goodnough, currently the program head of BCIT's Prosthetics and Orthotics department, graduated from the BCIT O&P-diploma program in 1994 and holds O&P certifications in both Canada and the United States. He is also a candidate for a master's degree in O&P from Jönköping University, Sweden.

His BCIT faculty biography states, "Jason is a past graduate of the BCIT prosthetics and orthotics program and a recipient of The Mabel and Arnet Pentland Achievement Award. Jason went on to clinical practice at Regina's Wascana Rehabilitation Hospital, where he completed internships in both prosthetics and orthotics.

"In 2000, Jason and his family relocated to Texas where he was the lead practitioner and practice manager with Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. In 2003 he was nominated for the Hanger Award of Excellence for his outstanding administrative and clinical contributions to that community.

"In 2004 Jason returned to BCIT, and brings a wealth of real-lifeclinical, educational, and administrative knowledge to the prosthetics and orthotics program. Most recently, BCIT proudly awarded Jason the 2008 Award of Excellence for Teaching and Research. He continues to be active in direct patient care through his clinical practice, Synergy Designs.

"Jason holds membership in the following associations: the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CBCPO); the Prosthetics and Orthotics Association of British Columbia (POABC); The Canadian Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics (CAPO); The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) and the International Society for Prosthetists and Orthotists (ISPO).
