The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has
announced that it will temporarily delay the effective date of the
Interim Final Rule meant to address recent changes to its national
competitive bidding program for durable medical equipment,
prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS). It pushed back the
rule’s effective date for 60 days, from February 17 to April 18,
stating in a notice on its website that the delay is “necessary to
give Department officials the opportunity for further review of the
issues of law and policy raised by this rule.” It also stated that
the public may also continue to submit comments on policy issues
discussed in the Interim Final Rule until March 17.
