The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) has released its updated Orthotics, Prosthetics, & Pedorthics Scope of Practice document. The Scope of Practice is used by orthotic, prosthetic, and pedorthic professionals, as well as consumers, other rehabilitation care professionals, legislators, and regulators to understand the parameters of patient care provided by ABC-credentialed professionals.
According to ABC, the Scope of Practice is reviewed by a group of certified orthotists, prosthetists, and pedorthists to ensure its continued relevancy to the profession.
“It has been my privilege to serve as chairman of ABC’s Scope of Practice Task Force,” said Rick Parr, CPO, FAAOP. “The material assembled in this Scope of Practice will impact accreditation standards, state-licensure standards, educational curriculum, and ABC’s certification exams. The Scope of Practice will continue to be updated periodically as the practice of orthotics, prosthetics, and pedorthics evolve.”
