The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF) and the First Clinics, along with The Dive Shop of Marietta, Georgia, hosted a First Dive Intro to Scuba Clinic on Saturday, June 20, at The Dive Shop pool in Marietta. The event offered amputees and others with physical challenges the opportunity to try scuba diving at no cost.
The Dive Shop owner Bruce Klein and his staff welcomed clinic participants and got them comfortable both in and around the water. Four participants were outfitted with buoyancy compensators, masks, regulators, and fins and were given instruction and the chance to experience scuba up to a depth of eight feet. According to OPAF, participant Barbara Donofrio had been a certified scuba diver with years of experience in Hawaii prior to her amputation and was thrilled to be back in the water and realize that she could experience scuba again.
