The Syracuse Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, New York, has opened a new prosthetics laboratory and outpatient rehabilitation clinic. According to syracuse.com, the laboratory will provide most of the medical center’s O&P devices, which were formerly fabricated off-site. The clinic, which has a ceiling-track harness system, is five times larger than the previous rehabilitation clinic and its staff includes seven physical therapists.
The new facilities will support the medical center’s future spinal-cord-injury center, a 30-bed facility that will be part of a six-story, $78 million addition that is expected to open in 2012. The addition will also offer expanded outpatient services, eight operating rooms, a therapy pool, and a dialysis unit.
