Danny Boyle, the director of Slumdog Millionaire, is teaming up again with Fox Searchlight Pictures for another film about adversity and triumph. According to Variety, the film 127 Hours will tell the story of Aron Ralston’s epic 2003 experience in Utah’s Blue John Canyon, in which the then-27-year-old mountaineer was pinned to a wall by an 800-pound boulder and escaped after five days by using a dull multi-tool blade to cut off his own trapped hand. Ralston, who was bleeding and starving, had to then rappel down a sheer cliff and hike six miles before encountering help.
Variety speculates that actor Ryan Gosling is a candidate to play Ralston, though the cast is still being auditioned. Production is slated to begin in 2010, for a late 2010 release.
