On May 15, the ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK trade exhibition will open its doors to the general public for Paralympics Day and Public Day. Both events highlight Paralympics professional sport, sport for the disabled, and rehabilitation sport.
Wheelchair Basketball
The German national wheelchair basketball team, which is training in Leipzig in preparation for the 2010 world championship, will take on the Polish national team on Paralympics Day/Public Day. In addition, the MeyraCup wheelchair basketball tournament will kick off its 10th season. Organized by MEYRA-ORTOPEDIA Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, the tournament series is designed to promote the popular sport.
Movement Forum
During the Movement Forum, disabled and rehabilitation sport groups from Bavaria, Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia will give presentations on sports such as sit-ball, sit-football or sit-volleyball, wheelchair karate, fencing, rugby, and dance, as well as rehabilitation sport after apoplectic stroke.
In addition to the various presentations and sporting matches, participants will also have the opportunity to try a number of activities, including badminton, biathlon, archery, golf, wheelchair dexterity courses, cycle sport, sit-football, and a fencing simulator.
Advanced Training for Professionals
A new addition to Paralympics Day will be advanced training events for trainers, instructors, and functionaries of the disabled associations. Highlights include a morning presentation titled, “Public Relations Work in Disabled Sports” and afternoon presentations titled, “Rehabilitation Sports and Physiotherapy: Legal Foundations and Important Information Regarding § 44, SGB IX” and “Traditional Sports Clubs-Commercial Providers! Does this Fit for Disabled Sports?”
Barrier Free Exhibits
According the event organizers, roughly 100 exhibitors will display their products for barrier-free construction and living, motor vehicle modification, mobility, tourism, or communication aides. Among the exhibitors will be numerous self-help organizations.
The 13th World Congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) will be held from May 10-15 at the Congress Center Leipzig, Germany, and ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK, a major product expo, will bring nearly 500 participant companies to the center between May 12-15. The Paralympics Day, Public Day, and ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK will be open on May 15 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The price for a day ticket on Paralympics Day and Public day is €6.50.
