The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) has released its 2009 annual report. According to ABC, the publication is “a summary of ABC’s successes in 2009 and provides insight into its current efforts.” In the report, each of ABC’s five core departments provide statistical analysis and highlight the organization’s accomplishments, including the year’s growth in its credentialing and facility accreditation programs.
Included in the report is a message from Robert S. Lin, CPO, FAAOP, ABC’s 2009 president, discussing the organization’s successes for the year. According to Lin, in 2009 ABC exceeded all its previous records for the number of facilities applying for accreditation-a total of 6,323 facilities applied or renewed their existing accreditation-a 450 percent increase over applications received in 2008.
ABC had a total of 7,548 accredited facilities at the end of 2009, a 305 percent increase over 2008.
A total of 1,392 newly certified individuals were added to the ABC family in 2009-a 56 percent increase over 2008.
Consumer outreach continued with the Amputee Coalition of America, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Disabled Sports/USA organizations, providing financial and educational support.
