Benjamin Moss passed away on May 6, in Winter Park, Florida, at the age of 89.
According to his online memorial, Moss was born in South Carolina and was raised in Haines City, Florida. He graduated with both his undergraduate degree and a law degree from the University of Florida and served in the Navy during World War II. He practiced law for ten years before becoming owner of Florida Brace Corporation, Winter Park, and was a past president of the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA).
Michael Burton, vice president of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America (OPGA), wrote in a post to the OANDP-L listserv that Moss gave many hours to “improving the profession that he served for over 40 years.” His friend and colleague, Brad Rosenburger, CPO, wrote on tributes.com that Moss was “a wise counsel” who “had a way about him that always left you feeling that a discussion was never complete until you had heard from Ben. He took all the conversations in and digested them and always brought balance and insight into leadership decisions.”
Moss is survived by his companion Tomoko Carson; son, Benjamin B. Moss Jr.; daughters, Marsha Millar and Anne Anderson; ex-wife Margaret H. Moss; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, his family would welcome donations to the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, 812 E. Rollins St., Orlando, FL 32803, or to Benevolent Assistance of Westminster Retirement Communities, c/o Winter Park Towers, 1111 South Lakemont Ave., Winter Park, FL 32792.
