A new Louisiana law that took effect April 1, 2010, requiring accreditation of O&P providers in order to be reimbursed by the state will remain in effect until a trial is held on the law’s constitutionality.
State District Judge Todd Hernandez, who dissolved a temporary restraining order blocking the state from enforcing the law, set the trial for March 19, 2011.
Before the passage of the state law, the accreditation process typically took about four months, the suit says. Since the law’s passage, the process can take at least seven or eight months due in part to the number of facilities in the state that now must seek accreditation and the limited number of individuals in the state who can accredit such facilities, the suit says.
