The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $512,736 grant to the University of Maine, Orono, for continued research on the development of a robotic hand.
Under the direction of assistant professor and head of the Rehabilitation and Neuromuscular Robotics Lab, Ashish Dashpane, PhD, the research aims to improve rehabilitation and quality of life for persons with hand disabilities, according to a joint statement released by U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan M. Collins (R-ME), as reported online in the Bangor Daily News January 15.
“This federal funding will help support strong science-based research at the University of Maine,” the senators said. “The potential for breakthrough technologies and research at Maine’s colleges and universities is great and will help serve to boost our state’s economy in the years to come.”
