AmpSurf has been named as a U.S. Olympic Opportunity Fund grant recipient, by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC). According to the Olympic Opportunity Fund website, the program was started in 2007 “to encourage growth of Olympic and Paralympic sports involvement through community-based athletic programs…and offers three Paralympic-focused grant programs.” This year, the program was open to Paralympic sport clubs, USOC Paralympic member organizations, as well as veteran and military organizations developing programs that serve injured military personnel and veterans.
Ampsurf will use funds from this grant, in part, to sponsor disabled active-duty military personnel and veterans to participate in its learn-to-surf clinics, which AmpSurf will expand to include programs on both U.S. coasts in 2011.
“The work that this organization is doing by providing disabled veterans the opportunity to participate in surfing is an excellent example of the potential that existing programs possess to serve our disabled veterans,” Tim Willis, the manager of the Olympic Opportunity Fund, said.
