OPAF and The First Clinics partnered with Shriners (Shriners) Hospitals for Children-Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a First Volley Adaptive Tennis Clinic, for the sixth year in a row. More than 30 participants and 65 attendees were at the clinic, held at Cherry Hill Racquet Club, New Jersey. The two-hour clinic of tennis skills and drills were developed especially for the physically challenged population. Attendees traveled from as far as Maryland, Virginia, and New York to be part of the OPAF event, underwritten with grant funding from the United States Tennis Association philanthropic arm, USTA Serves.
First Volley Director of Tennis, Darren Kindred, PTR, led the clinic, with assistance from First Volley instructor, Tom Cooper, and area tennis coach, Carol MacLennan. Also joining for the day were staff and support from Shriners, representatives from Pennsylvania and New Jersey Shrine organizations, Shrine Clowns, and Amputee Coalition Chairman of the Board Marshall Cohen.
