The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has again delayed the Recovery Audit Prepayment Review demonstration to a start date of “the summer of 2012.”
According to CMS, the program is designed to help lower the error rate by preventing improper payments rather than collecting improper payments after they occur. It was originally slated to begin January 1 and then changed to June 1.
CMS has said it will provide 30 days’ notice prior to the program’s start.
