Jonnie Peacock, a transtibial amputee from Doddington, England, sprinted into the world record book with his time of 10.85 seconds in the 100m event at the U.S. Paralympics Track and Field trials held June 29-July 1 at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium Indiana University Purdue University – Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus. The 19 year old’s time replaces world records set by Oscar “the Blade Runner” Pistorius’ 2007 record of 10.91 seconds and 2004 U.S. Paralympic champion Marlon Shirley’s 2007 record by 0.06 seconds.
While improving his previous best time by 0.39 seconds, Peacock raced against other notable runners including world champion Jerome Singleton, Shirley, and last year’s Parapan American Games gold medallist Jarryd Wallace.
