Effective July 1, the four Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors (DME MACs) have removed the requirement for coding verification by the Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding contractor (PDAC) for certain AFOs/KAFOs, according to the PDAC website.
The affected AFO codes are: L-1930 (ankle foot orthosis, plastic or other material, prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustment); L-1932 (ankle foot orthosis, rigid anterior tibial section, total carbon fiber or equal material, prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustment); L-1940 (ankle foot orthosis, plastic or other material, custom-fabricated); L-1960 (ankle foot orthosis, posterior solid ankle, plastic, custom-fabricated); L-1970 (ankle foot orthosis, plastic with ankle joint, custom-fabricated); and L-1971 (ankle foot orthosis, plastic or other material with ankle joint, prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustment).
