The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes, which take effect January 1, 2013. The list is available on the CMS website.
According to the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA), the addition of one new L-Code and description changes to four L-Codes are specific to O&P.
New Code
L-5859: Addition to lower extremity prosthesis, endoskeletal knee-shin system, powered and programmable flexion/extension assist control, includes any type motor(s).

L-8000

L-8001
New description: Breast prosthesis, mastectomy bra, with integrated breast prosthesis form, unilateral, any size, any type.
