Three Wichita, Kansas, high school seniors are working to bring public awareness and acceptance to individuals with limb loss and limb difference with a campaign they designed for a DECA, a high school- and college-level international business club, competition. Their campaign slogan is, “So I’m missing an arm or a leg….SO WHAT? We’re more than what we are missing.” Their first competition is March 3-5.
Miah Hamm, Mackenzie Gardiner, and Karlee Cooper are competing in the Public Relations Project category of the DECA competition. With Cooper, a congenital upper-limb amputee, as the inspiration for the project, they said their goal is to bring positive awareness to individuals with limb differences in an effort to combat the lack of amputees in the mainstream media.
Among other things, the team has launched a website, sowhatcampaign.org, started a page on Facebook, and opened a Twitter account.
