Ottobock North America, Minneapolis, Minnesota, acquired Bio Cybernetics International (BCI), doing business as Cybertech Medical, La Verne, California, on December 1, 2012.
Cybertech, which employs 26 people, will maintain its current location and will become Ottobock’s new spinal bracing center. Ottobock will develop, produce, and market Cybertech products. According to Ottobock, the acquisition will allow it to promote the skills and strengths of both companies, with Cybertech as the platform for further growth of its spinal bracing business unit.
“Ottobock will receive access to innovative and patented products through the acquisition,” Ottobock Chief Financial Officer Andreas Schultz was quoted as saying in the German newspaper Göttinger Tageblatt, allowing for possibilities that extend beyond market growth in commercially available spinal braces, The companies will now share distribution channels.
