Stefan Moser, CPed, founder of Swiss Balance, Santa Monica, California, has died at the age of 54. Moser was participating in an off-road motorcycle trip in the Mojave Desert, California, at the time of his death on April 27.
He first earned his certification in prosthetics in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1980, and worked for the International Red Cross in Angola and Lebanon establishing prosthetic workshops and training local technicians in fitting prosthetic devices for civil war casualties. He founded Swiss Balance in 1989, and received his pedorthic certification in 1991. He was also a member of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics.
According to his obituary, “He built, together with his team, a sound and successful business providing P&O services to people of all walks of life, [and was] greatly respected by colleagues and clients. He will be sorely missed by his family, the Swiss Balance team, and clients.” Swiss Balance will continue providing orthotic, prosthetic, and pedorthic services.
Moser is survived by seven brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
