The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner has announced that Peter Budetti, MD, JD, is leaving his position as the deputy administrator and director of CMS’ Center for Program Integrity (CPI), effective September 11. As reported by Bloomberg BNA, the announcement was made via an internal e-mail.
The CPI was created in April 2010, the result of the consolidation of the Medicare and Medicaid program integrity groups, and Budetti was the first to hold these job titles. His deputy, Elisabeth Handley, will serve as acting director for CPI.
