Fourteen golfers competed in the Amputee Long Drive Championship (ALDC) that was held in Mesquite, Nevada, on October 29. The competitors are given six balls and have two minutes and 45 seconds to hit their best drives down a 400-yard-long grid that was is 60-yards wide. They competed in a three-round super qualifier with the best in each category then competing in a match play competition, according to the Mesquite Citizen Journal. The longest drive in each division wins.
Jared Brentz won the Match Play Championship – leg amputee and multiple amputations division with a 358-yard drive; Lucian Newman III, MD, won the assisted (prosthesis) arm amputee and age 40+ division with a 299-yard drive; Brendon Jacks won the below-knee division with a 334-yard drive; Brad Clayton won the Match Play Championship – arm amputee with a 254-yard drive; Alan Gentry won the unassisted arm amputee division with a 265-yard drive; and Dean Jarvis won the above-knee division with a 265-yard drive.
The event was sponsored by 3D printer manufacturer Stratasys, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Proceeds benefit the Jordan Thomas Foundation.
