St. Petersburg College (SPC), Florida, announced that it will begin offering the state’s only associate of science degree in orthotics and prosthetics technology in fall 2014. Applications for the first class of the two-year program are being accepted through June 30. The curriculum will provide preparation for the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) technician certification exam. SPC said it is seeking National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) accreditation for the program.
SPC is a member of the consortium of colleges that received $11 million as part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training federal grant aimed at expanding the number of trained, certified healthcare workers with expertise in orthotics and prosthetics.
