The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a rule on July 31 finalizing October 1, 2015, as the new compliance date for healthcare providers, health plans, and healthcare clearinghouses to transition to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems tenth revision (ICD-10). Entities covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) will be required to use the ICD-10 diagnostic and procedure codes.
