Össur Americas, Foothill Ranch, California, has launched the Össur Women’s Leadership Initiative that “encourages interaction, community-building, and educational opportunities that serve the needs of the growing number of women” in O&P, according to a company press release. The initiative will include an educational webinar series and a blog, among other resources.
“While women currently comprise about 20 percent of all O&P professionals in the United States, that number has more than doubled over the past decade, and women now comprise more than half of all students enrolled in graduate-level O&P programs,” said Kim De Roy, CPO, PT, Össur America’s vice president of sales and marketing and education for prosthetics. “We at Össur recognized the importance of providing dedicated resources to help encourage more women to join the profession, and to marshal their growing influence in the field.”
Össur sponsored an online survey this year in which 93 percent of the 130 women who responded agreed that more women are needed in O&P leadership roles, and 83 percent of respondents indicated interest in more resources for developing leadership capability.
