The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) has updated its Model State Licensure Practice Act, Administrative Rules, and Handbook for individuals considering OP&P licensure in their states. The tools can help those implementing a licensure act to create standards for patient protection. The handbook contains the common rationale used to initiate licensure in a non-licensure state, how to begin writing a bill, generating support, lobbying legislators, and navigating the regulatory process, as well as a sample legislative handout.
“These revised licensure resources offer those interested in O&P state licensure an excellent template from which to begin the process,” said Cathy Carter, executive director. “We appreciate the hard work of the ABC volunteers who contributed to updating and refining these resources.”
