Robert “BJ” Johansen, CO(E), passed away suddenly at his home in Brandon, South Dakota, on September 9. He was 70 years old.
Johansen began his O&P career at the Anne Carlsen Crippled Children’s School, Jamestown, North Dakota. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, and Northwestern University before receiving his orthotics certificate. He became part owner of Fredrickson Orthopedics, Fargo, North Dakota, and later opened Johansen Prosthetics, Fargo, and Advanced O&P in West Fargo, North Dakota, which had satellite offices in surrounding areas, according to an obituary posted by the George Boom Funeral Chapel.
Johansen’s greatest joy, said the obituary, was helping people overcome disabilities and making sure they were cared for.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Lisa McCleary and Bob J. Johansen, BOCO; three grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Srozinski.
