Breanne Everett, MD, cofounder and CEO of Orpyx Medical Technologies, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, won a Governor General’s Innovation Award for her work in developing a shoe insole that helps patients with diabetes-related foot conditions improve blood flow. She was among five other Canadians and a Canadian organization that were recognized for their innovations that met the criteria of being exceptional and transformative, and having a positive impact on quality of life. The awards were presented by David Johnston, the governor general of Canada, at a ceremony on April 28.
“In essence, innovation is about finding new and better ways to create value, to foster a more compassionate, inclusive society and to meaningfully impact our quality of life,” Johnston was quoted as saying. “Hailing from across the country, the recipients of these awards are demonstrating the power of creativity and collaboration to build a smarter, more caring Canada and a better world.”
