Mizuno, Osaka, Japan, a sports equipment and sportswear manufacturer, announced that it plans to enter into the prosthetics manufacturing industry in September, with a focus on prosthetic limbs for track and field athletes. Nikkei Asian Review reports that Mizuno is teaming up with Imasen Engineering, an Imasen Electric Industrial group company, Inuyama, Japan, that makes such assistive devices as electric wheelchairs and prosthetic legs.
The two companies have collaborated on research and development since 2014 and have already tested a number of prototypes. About 100 businesses across Japan that offer prosthetic limbs will participate by taking orders, and Mizuno engineers will personalize each product by adjusting the length and other factors as requested by each athlete.
