Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC) has welcomed Martin W. Buckner, CPO/L, to the staff as a lecturer in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Buckner brings clinical, instructional, and managerial skills to the NUPOC Master’s in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO) program, where he will teach MPO students and guide their clinical practicums.
Buckner has nearly two decades of O&P experience. He has practiced as a clinician and held management roles in private and institutional settings in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Mississippi. His clinical interests include inpatient orthotic rehabilitation management, with experience with spinal, upper-limb, and lower-limb orthoses. As an educator, Buckner has mentored and conducted cross-disciplinary clinical education for residents at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and he taught for the Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology program at Joliet Junior College.
Buckner completed his prosthetics and orthotics training at NUPOC in 1997 and 2001, respectively, and his residencies at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Springer Prosthetic and Orthotic Services, Lansing, Michigan.
“Mr. Buckner is an accomplished clinician-educator and we welcome his addition to our faculty. His 18 years of clinical experience and mentorship of residents will be immediately applied to the on-site training of NUPOC MPO students. We believe that he will contribute significantly to the clinical training and education program at Northwestern University,” said NUPOC Director John W. Michael, MEd, CPO/L.
