RE: Research study to understand and support decision making in prosthetics

Dear Members of the O&P Community,

We would like to invite you and any interested patients with a new lower limb amputation to take part in a research study to identify needs for making decisions about prostheses. The aim of this study is to develop a tool for supporting patient and prosthetists through the prosthetic decision-making process. This study is open to all individuals that are either:

1. Practicing prosthetists
2. Patients within 1 year of their lower limb amputation, using or in the process of receiving their first prosthesis.

This study will take place in the format of either:

1. Online discussion focus group (prosthetists), or
2. Individual phone/online interviews (patients with lower limb amputation).

Participants will be asked to share their experiences and opinions with regards to making decisions about prostheses, and discuss potential areas for improving the decision process and patient/prosthetist communication. Eligible patient participants will receive monetary compensation for participation.

Your contributions and insights will be critical to the advancement of prosthetic care in our field.

Interviews and group discussions will be coordinated to work with your schedule, and expected to take up to 2 hours total.

Please email Chelsey.anderson@cuanschutz.edu for more information.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Chelsey B. Anderson, CPO, FAAOP
