I did a quick search with little findings on studies related to the heat generated inside prosthetic sockets. Would appreciate your input & thoughts on the insulating effects of multi-ply socks worn inside sockets. Do socks add significantly to the insulating factor of prosthetic sockets?
I have heard this frequently over the years from pts, but a gentleman I working with right now swears he perspires more when he needs to wear more than a 2ply sock over his locking liner. He reports being the most comfortable when using a sheath or 2ply over the liner & anything over that he begins to complain about socket heat & the significantly increased perspiration.
