Online Product Encyclopedia gives amputees newresource
amp’d has launched a new tool for the limbloss/difference community designed to help consumers understand what prostheticproducts are available to them. The amp’dProduct Encyclopedia aggregates information from multiple prostheticmanufacturers’ websites and provides patients a centralized resource to comparedifferent types of prosthetic components.
“We think the Product Encyclopedia fillsa gap that has historically limited amputees’ ability to understand thedifferent implications of selecting one prosthetic component versus anotherâ€said amp’d co-founder, PeggyChenoweth. “We have taken information that has historically been fragmented andintegrated it into an easy-to-use format that includes product images, linksdirectly to manufacturers’ websites, and publicly-available coding and Medicarefee schedule information.â€
The ProductEncyclopedia is just the latest in an expanding universe of tools created by amp’d for the limb loss/differencecommunity. Patients visiting the amp’d website
(www.ampdpod.com)can download resources like the 5 Stepsto Winning Appeals Tool (a how-to guide on drafting an effective insuranceappeal), the Role of the Physician Tool(a checklist amputees can give their doctors explaining what information needsto be included in their medical records) and the amp’d Research Index (a database of more than 500 prostheticstudies and articles, organized by topic and year of publication). amp’d members also participate in “Callsto Action†addressing issues of importance to the amputee community (e.g.,health care reform, the Orthotic and Prosthetic Improvement Act of 2017, andThe Local Coverage Determination Clarification Act).
