Dear Colleagues,
I am conducting an initial survey for research to present at AAOP related
to shape acquisition of atypical limbs, primarily Transtibial, Transradial,
congenital etc. I would like to know what methods and materials you have
used most successfully on bony, scarred, radically tapered, amorphous or
otherwise difficult-to-cast limbs. How do you capture the definition of
underlying bony structures while still allowing redundant or sensitive soft
tissue to remain minimally loaded? What is the ratio of limbs cast vs
scanned? How would you rate the resulting model in terms of its accuracy;
was significant rectification needed, were multiple test sockets or
re-casting required? What are you changing in your practice in order to
reduce the time required to cast, rectify and produce a well fitting socket?
