UE interested in nurse training

Jacque Cross Hancock CP

Dear O&P List Members,

I provide prosthetic services for a high school senior with a very short
congenital transradial amputation who is interested in a career in
nursing. She has toured a nursing school and believes she can physically
handle what is expected with the major exception of donning sterile
surgical gloves. She has worn a myoelectric prosthesis, but prefers to
use her body powered TRS Lite Touch voluntary closing termial device.
Due to the cable exit and current termial device configuration I will
need to change her termial device. Her mother indicates she would like
to stay with a body power prosthesis at this time. I am looking at
Hosmer voluntary opening and voluntary closing hands. I believe it may
still be a stuggle to don sterile gloves.

Does anyone treat medical professionals who are transradial amputees?
What do they wear? How do they manage donning sterile gloves? How have
you or they adapted their prosthesis? Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you,
Jacque Cross Hancock CP
