Howdy All,
I am working with a gentleman, 50+ years of age, retired Army, with a long
conical transtibial amputation(TTA).
We have 6″ distal end to floor space for componentry.
He will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania during August 2010.
He has been climbing for many decades, but with his new TTA, we are looking
for the best prosthesis and options for climbing.
Being a US Veteran, he has a prescription for a climbing prosthesis.
Suction suspension, dynamic response, multiaxial foot.
Could you please help me and this gentleman with some advice on components
and socket design.
I have a plan in mind, but I would like to know what has worked for other
TTA climbers. We are open-minded to all ideas.
I recently read about Mark Inglis, the first bilateral TTA to summit Mt.
Everest. He is from New Zealand. In a video, he showed his foot design,
and demonstrated what was necessary for him to climb. I have never seen
anything like the foot he used. If his prosthetist is on this list serv,
could you please contact me to discuss how it all worked.
We have until the end of 2009 to complete the design and build the
prosthesis. He will be training and climbing smaller mountains, between now
and August 2010.
