Query on dynamic Elbow splint

Suman Kumar Panda

I am a final year student from India doing bachelor of prosthetics and orthotics, recently I got a patient for a dynamic elbow splint.. The history of the patient (21 yrs, male) is as follows: Suffered a fracture proximal part of ulna (Rt.) before 4 years and then left untreated and after 4 years now, broke his bone again at the same place while doing certain ADL activity, reported at our institute late in August and it was revealed that the site have become carcinomatous so, immediately he was operated and the carcinomatous cells were debrided and filled up with bone graft from the fibula and immobilized for a few weaks and now after the immobilizer was removed he was prescribed for an elbow dynamic splint to protect the site from further injury. When examined the following things were found: elbow contracture 50 degrees (primarily due to boney grafts), loss of normal supination and pronation, but the patient could do feeding (actively) and other activities with out pain.
My query is that is it necessary to provide a splint for this case if so, than what would be the design principle. Your response is eagerly awaited.
