We use 3/16″ modified polyethylene cut to 32″ X 48″ for scoliosis jackets. We have been purchasing it from a couple of distributors, but we’re not sure they’re working with us on pricing. A third plastic supplier seems more willing to work with us, but he needs to know who manufactures the 3/16″ modified polyethylene.
Can anyone help us on this?

We get our modified poly from spartech. We get 5/32″ 48 x 32″ from them for less then $10.00 a sheet. We have to buy 2500 lbs at a time though.

I get most of my plastics from Interstate Plastics here in Northern Cal (800-4664341). The manufacture of 3/16″ MODIFIED LDPE NATURAL is POLY HI SOLIDUR. Their ph # is 1-877-4POLYHI. Their web address is www.polyhisolidur.com This plastic is not cheap. I stock 1/8” and 3/16″ and I pay $135 and
$95 for 48″ x 96″ sheets.
Kingsley carries Friddle’s at their list price.
Don’t forget, at the 32 x 48 and larger sizes you are probably paying dimensional weight shipping charges as well.
I assume you’re looking for linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) as modified typically droops to the floor when heated to forming temperatures. I’ve found that Poli Hi Solidur and Westlake LLDPE to have consistent quality. Be careful when specifying polyethylene because modified PE
(MDPE)
really has no functional use in our field, nor does low density PE (LDPE). LLDPE is the PE I’ve used for the last 20 years for LSO’s and TLSO’s when I use PE. Every once and a while we’ll mistakenly get a shipment of modified in by mistake; as I say, it will droop to the floor at 350 degrees. Careful with the designation you use, it makes a huge difference.
