OPAF SEEKS NEW BOARD MEMBERS

(WASHINGTON, DC) August 17, 2004 – The Executive Committee of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF) reminds interested parties that the committee has begun its annual search for individuals who wish to serve the U.S. orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) community through membership on the board of directors of O&P’s official philanthropy.

The OPAF Executive Committee, as the organization’s nominating committee, coordinates nominations to the OPAF Board of Directors, presenting these nominations to the entire OPAF Board each fall.

The deadline for filing nominations is 5:00 PM EST Wednesday, August 25, 2004.

At this juncture, nominees are needed for the following two positions:

– O&P practitioner representative

– At-large representative

Complete nomination details and the required nomination form are available on the OPAF web site at:
http://www.opfund.org/about/index.html.

Both self-nominations and second-party nominations are welcome.

Nominees should have appropriate background, a history of 501(c)(3) nonprofit committee/volunteer work alongside a familiarity with and dedication to fundraising, and a strong commitment to the primary mission of the Fund: to enable individuals with physical disabilities – especially those served by members of the O&P community – to enjoy the rewards of personal achievement, physical fitness, and social interaction.

OPAF operates according to the best practices described in Standards for
Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector,
(C) 1998 Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations.

In advance of preparing the required application, nominees are encouraged to read and familiarize themselves with the responsibilities and duties described in this publication, which is conveniently available online at:

Please direct questions to Jeffrey S. Reznick, Ph.D., OPAF Executive Director/Senior Research Fellow ([email protected]; tel 202-223-8878).

OPAF is a 501(c)(3) public charity, the official philanthropy of the U.S. orthotics and prosthetics community, established in 1995 by the Orthotic and Prosthetic National Office. Dedicated initially to providing financial and in-kind support to the 1996 Paralympics, OPAF now generates its own initiatives through partnerships with individuals, organizations and institutions engaged in raising public awareness of disability and improving the quality of rehabilitation medicine, science and technology.

As a community-focused nonprofit organization, OPAF aims primarily to enable individuals with physical disabilities-especially those served by members of the orthotics and prosthetics community-to enjoy the rewards of personal achievement, physical fitness, and social interaction.

All contributions to OPAF are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of U.S. law, and annual sponsorships of OPAF, its programs, and its fundraisers are available to every individual, institution, and company inside and beyond the O&P community. For more information about sponsorship opportunities contact OPAF at 1666 K Street NW, Suite 440, Washington, DC 20006, Tel. (202) 223-2878, email [email protected], or visit http://www.opfund.org/support/index.html
